This month we kick off Yardley Farmers’ Market’s (YFM) 10th anniversary in Buttonwood Park! Back in April 2015, Tammy Marshall approached Sue Schneck about starting a
farmers’ market in the Yardley Borough, and 1 month later, the market started!
Our opening day on May 4 was a success! Many thanks to Representative Perry Warren and Yardley Borough Council President, Caroline Thompson for helping us kick off the summer season, and they reminded everyone at the market of how important farmers’ markets are to communities. A few points mentioned were:
Two of YFM’s farmers, Solly Farms and Abe’s Acres have been with YFM since day 1!
By shopping local, we’re reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our local community members.
The foods sold at the farmers’ market are fresh which makes them healthier than those sold at the supermarket.
And farmers’ markets contain less germs than supermarkets, so by shopping at the market, we may be less likely to catch a cold or bug!
This summer season, we are glad to have almost all of our vendors from last year’s
summer market back with us and we’re welcoming some new faces too. Wildspawn
Mushrooms is our newest vendor. Based in Ringoes, NJ, Wildspawn Mushrooms will
be bringing us cultivated and locally foraged mushrooms each week through the
summer season. We’ll also have many familiar and new faces popping up with us
throughout the summer. Be sure to follow us on social media for updates on our vendor
line up at each market and different events.
This summer we’re working on a Kid’s Market program, which is a new project in
collaboration with the YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties. The Kid’s Market will
be kicking off at the end of June. We’re grateful to St. Mary Hospital for their generous
support of the Kid’s Market program.
There is so much to be excited about this summer season at YFM, and we are so grateful to all our customers and vendors for helping our Market grow! Looking forward to
seeing you at the market!
